There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line.
1. Make the appointment. Once you make the appointment, we will collect from you the necessary information to either verify a diagnosis made by another doctor, or determine if you can be diagnosed directly by Dr. Turner. Sometimes this can over the phone, but sometimes it needs to be done in person. Since we have a Family Medicine clinic location, you have an opportunity to get additional routine medical care if needed.
2. If you qualify under the Texas Compassionate Act, your prescription will be sent to the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas (CURT). You will be given instructions on how to use the medication but if you forget just Dr. Turner and she will help you out.
3. You should now go online to one of the dispensaries in Texas: https://texasoriginal.com, or https://tx.goodblend.com, or https://getfluent.com. Once there you'll determine what you want to get based on our discussion about your prescription. Many times, Dr. Turner recommends the Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) formulation, which is available at Texas Original. The other dispensaries may offer RSO in the future.
4. You can order the medication on the dispensary site. Make sure you have selected a pick-up time and location that works for you. You should know that every single day they distribute this medication across the state - they get up early in the morning in Austin and drive to the pickup locations, so you will need to be prepared to wait at least one business day. If your product is not picked up on the designated day, they are legally required to take it back to Austin that night.
Remember that the first time you take your medication, I recommend a smaller amount to see how you do. Every once in a while, someone is very sensitive to the medication and a smaller dose is sufficient for them. Rarely someone will feel bad on the medication, and the smaller dose will minimize the duration. CBD really does help this situation, and it also helps the medication work better - so don't forget to take the CBD with THC (unless you have trouble with sleeping...THC will make you sleepy). Don't drive if you are sleepy or dizzy or high!
Be sure to call if you have any difficulties or questions.
Why do I do this?
Medicine comes in many forms:
laughter, food, relationships, plants, etc.
Getting well in our whole body requires that we have the best quality of life possible. I know that cannabis has helped many people with these conditions, and I wish to make sure that no one suffers needlessly or that no one has legal problems simply because the only medication that helps them happens to be so regulated.
If there was anything I could do to convey what it takes to really get well, and help my patients to do that and not be dependent on a drug of any kind for the rest of their life, I would be satisfied.
These effects are somewhat outdated already. The studies are few but getting bigger, Please review the most recent studies. Even today, we are doubting that cannabis is really a culprit in psychosis. I mean what if your psychosis is from PTSD? Or you obtained cannabis from an untrusted source that laced your cannabis with ????. I've seen this in real life - not cool.
If you feel that you should qualify but you aren't on the list, call your representatives in Texas. For example, chronic pain passed the house almost unanimously but it was not even brought to the Texas Senate for a vote in 2023. It's 2025 and the state legislature will try again. We know it helps pain, I have seen too many patients over the years who treat themselves with illegally obtained marijuana from who knows where. That is why I am afraid for a situation where a person thinks they are buying marijuana for their pain, only to discover someone laced fentanyl into the "product". I have seen laced marijuana cause permanent psychosis. The victim had a twin who also smoked marijuana, but decided to skip it this time. She's still normal.
Here it is again. Plus, we have these instructions in written form on the website too.
Here is how to avoid getting cognitive problems or becoming tolerant to the medication. You can always wall if you have any issues. I am here to help you.
